Location & Areas We Serve
History
Conover Veterinary Hospital was founded in 1988 by Dr. Donald Whitener. While working as an associate veterinarian in Lincolnton, Dr. Whitener was exploring the western North Carolina area for possible locations to open his own hospital. He saw a need in Conover and opened his own business there. The business more than met his expectations and in 1993 he made the first expansion to the facility, adding more kennel space and a grooming room. In 1995, he invited Dr. Judy Bumbarger to move her clients, staff, and equipment to Conover. Dr. Bumbarger had been the owner of Catawba Animal Clinic in Newton. Dr. Bumbarger had purchased Catawba Animal in 1989, and was outgrowing the facility she leased. They both will agree to this day that their partnership has been a great benefit for themselves, their clients, and staff.Dr. Tina Whitted joined the team as an Associate Veterinarian in 1996. She brings to the hospital a specific interest in exotic medicine and care for small mammals and pocket pets. With continued growth the facility was again expanded in 1996. The addition included more exam rooms, more kennel area, a larger treatment room, and a new surgery room. No future facility expansions are planned, but we hope to continue to improve the facility with upgrades in equipment and technology. As of 2014 we upgraded our hospital with the Companion Laser Therapy! We have seen remarkable results with the use of this new technology and found it has vastly improved the quality of life and pain management in our patients. If you would like more information on Companion Laser Therapy. Dr. Brett Pendergrass joined the team as an Associate Veterinarian in 2018. He is an Iredell County native, graduated from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009, after attending undergraduate at UNC Charlotte. He was an associate veterinarian at Statesville Bovine and Equine Clinic in Statesville until 2017. Dr. Pendergrass then worked at the Humane Society of the Piedmont's Spay/Neuter clinic until joining Conover Veterinary Hospital.
