History
Bayou South Animal Hospital was founded in 1997 by Dr. Ted Shope and Dr. Jay Carter partners of Southern Veterinary Associates. Bayou South was opened as a second location to their original location, Downtown Animal Hospital. In 2011 Bayou South become its own entity with Dr. Shope assuming sole ownership and continues to serve southwest Louisiana as a locally owned and operated veterinary hospital. Until 2015 Dr. Shope practiced large animal medicine alongside his colleagues in both large and small animal medicine until his passing in 2015. Many of the staff of Bayou South have endured the difficult transition of losing the heart and soul of Bayou South. Since the passing of our founder in 2015, Bayou South continues to operate under the legacy of Dr. Ted Shope but is now owned by his daughter and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Darby Shope.
