History
In the Beginning:
Dr. George Dorney started his veterinary practice in the village of Pleasant Valley on West Road in a house that now belongs to one of our endearing, long time clients.
In the 1930's, he purchased a 200 year old house on Gretna Road. The barn that belonged to that house became the site of Pleasant Valley Animal Hospital, as we all know it today.
Dr. Dorney treated "All Creatures, Great and Small". Horses and cattle were stabled in stalls on the lower level, while dogs and cats were seen in a large, open, central area upstairs. In the beginning, there was a large room with one wall of cages, facing a single table used for examinations and treatments. Dr. Dorney began renovations on the building in order to make it more suitable for his practice needs he did such things as adding an extension to the back of the building for a surgical suite.
Dr. Poggi purchased the hospital in 1969 and started his own renovations in the summer of 1970. Under his direction Pleasant Valley Animal Hospital became one of the first veterinary hospitals in
Dutchess County to be certified by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) which sets a very high standard of practice for veterinary hospitals, nationwide (only hospitals that pass their rigorous standards are certified, therefore not all hospitals have AAHA certification).
Dr. Gearhart purchased the hospital in 1999 and began renovations again to bring the hospital to where it is today. Being a Board Certified General Practitioner she has brought Digital Radiography, Acupuncture and Myotherapy to the practice as well.
The practice now consists of 2 waiting rooms one for cats and one for dogs. There are 3 exam rooms, one of which is set up for treatments and dentistry's. There is a surgical room, an in-house lab, digital x-ray area, pharmacy and a kennel with an additional treatment area along with an outdoor kennel area and courtyard for boarders.
