Dog preventative care is kind of a misunderstanding. We call things like flea, tick, and heartworm products preventative care but, honestly, preventative care is primarily an annual exam, at the very least, by your veterinarian to talk about adding certain prescriptions or making lifestyle changes at home.

Dog preventative care is anything that we do medically speaking that prevents disease. So the most common things would be vaccinations, heartworm preventatives, and perhaps flea control. It involves products that we can give or administer that will prevent disease down the road.

So preventative care is stopping diseases before they start.
