Kristi Gran DVM

Veterinarian

Hi there! I’m Dr. Kristi Gran, a veterinarian and partner at Conley & Koontz Equine Hospital in Columbia City, Indiana. I've served the equine community in Columbia City, Indiana since 2018, specializing in internal medicine, with a focus on neonatology, metabolic disease, and critical care.

I started pursuing a career in veterinary medicine by attending The University of Findlay, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Pre-Veterinary Medicine. I then attended Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, earning my DVM in 2007. Following veterinary school, I completed an internship and internal medicine residency at Purdue University, where I also earned a Master of Science in Veterinary Science. I became board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Large Animal) in 2012.

Before joining the team at Conley & Koontz, I worked in racetrack medicine at Baronne Veterinary Clinic in Louisiana and in general equine practice at TNT Equine in Maine. Each of those experiences helped shape the veterinarian I am today, and I bring that perspective and experience to every case I manage. I'm dedicated to staying up-to-date with the latest and greatest in equine care, and am a proud member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP).

Favorite Part of my Job

Without question, my favorite part of this job is the relationships I build, both with the horses I care for and the people who love them. Whether I’m someone’s regular veterinarian or I’ve been called in to help with a challenging case, I treasure those moments when clients stay in touch, sharing updates and successes long after treatment is done. It reminds me why I do what I do.

Why I chose this profession

The bond people share with their horses is unlike anything else, and that connection is what inspired me to become a veterinarian. I wanted to preserve and protect that bond by helping ensure horses stay healthy and strong so their relationship with their people can last as long as possible.

Personal Hobbies & Interests

Outside of veterinary medicine, my current specialization might best be described as “kid transport." I’m thriving in my role as a taxi driver to soccer and swim practices! I love spending time with my family and enjoying the everyday chaos of a busy life together.

I also share my home (and my workspace) with my beloved pets. Rey, my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, comes to work with me every day to supervise operations. At home, my two Basset Hounds — Leia and Gidget — prefer to supervise from the couch, while our Ragdoll cat, Chewie, keeps meticulous track of every stray Nerf bullet on the floor.
