Here in Naperville, we really love our pets! Our city, which straddles Will and DuPage counties, is just 28 miles from Chicago. Today, it is one of the largest cities in Illinois. We are bordered by Wheaton, Warrenville, Woodridge, Aurora, Plainfield, and Bolingbrook.
You’ll find plenty to do in Naperville for humans and pets. Our historic district offers more than 600 historic buildings. The Naperville Riverwalk is one of the city’s most popular attractions and is the “Crown Jewel” of the city. The Riverwalk offers landmarks, amazing views, parks, and more. As far as spending time with your pets go, you’ll find plenty of local parks and dog parks. Plus, the weather here is perfect for fall, summer, and spring walks with your favorite pets. Winter can get a bit cold, but the weather is not too intense that you can’t walk the dog much of the time.
Of course, there are also many events that make our city fantastic. They include the Naperville Independent Film Festival, which features many indie artists bring their crafts to the city for public viewing. Additionally, you can attend many local events around the city to see the Naperville Municipal Band.
The economy of Naperville has made it one of the wealthiest in the Midwest. It is also one of the country’s safest cities. Since the city is part of the Illinois Technology and Research Corridor, the area is known for its technological offerings. Kraft Foods and other food-related businesses are also located in the city. Naperville also hosts Dukane Precast, Fermilab, and Argonne National Laboratory. The top employers in the city include Edward Hospital, Alcatel-Lucent, and Nicor.
The city in Naperville got its start in 1831 when a man named Joseph Naper arrived near the DuPage River. Naper and his family arrived in the frontier. Before that, the area was inhabited by the Sauk and other Native American groups. The city grew, and in the 1880s it became a site for construction and factories. It became the site of the world’s largest furniture manufacturer.
Many people have made a home in Naperville. They include author Emily Giffin, Jeopardy record-holder James Holzhauer, writer and actor Bill Odenkirk, newscaster Paula Zahn, and Saturday Night Live cast member Chris Redd.
The population of Naperville was 147,682 as of 2017. This shows a population change of more than 15 percent. Our city is a fantastic place to live for people and pets, and we are happy to see the population growing.
