Hollywood

Here in Hollywood, we really love our pets!

Our Florida city may have been named after a California city, but that does not mean we don’t have a unique culture all our own. Situated between Fort Lauderdale and Miami, Hollywood offers a gorgeous climate with temperatures that are often in the 70s. Today, Hollywood is the state’s 12th largest city. We are situated in Broward County and offer nearly six miles of beach on the Atlantic Coast.

In addition to the beach, Hollywood has 60 parks, seven golf courses, and a 2.5-mile long boardwalk. Additionally, many organizations and businesses in the area offer guided tours. You can also enjoy many local shops, restaurants, and bars.

Don’t forget about the many events we offer in Hollywood. One of our most prominent events is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival, but many locals also enjoy the Spring Marshmallow Drop in April. On July 4th, you can look forward to the Star-Spangled Spectacular. Summer also brings the Cardboard Boat Race.

The economy of Hollywood, Florida, includes a diverse offering of industries. Companies with headquarters in our city include HEICO and the Invicta Watch Group. Hollywood’s top employers include Memorial Healthcare, City of Hollywood, The Continental Group, and Diplomat Resort and Spa. Local universities and colleges also contribute to the economic diversity and success of our city.

Hollywood got its start in 1920 when Joseph Wesley Young arrived. His goal was to establish a dream city in his new state. He envisioned lots of attractions and entertainment options. Young was eventually elected the first mayor of the city in 1925. The place became a haven for people who wanted to escape the harsh weather of winters up north. Hollywood offers lovely weather around the year, which makes it a great destination for anybody who wants the freedom to walk their dog throughout the year.

Many notable people have lived in Hollywood over the years. They include actress Jayne Atkinson, NBA player Steve Blake, model Janice Dickinson, baseball player Joe DiMaggio, actor Josh Gad, and actress Veronica Lake.

The population of Hollywood, Florida, is nearly 155,000. Our city, which sits on the eastern coast of South Florida, is a primary city in Miami’s metropolitan area. In fact, nearly six million people live in the Miami area. As you can see, we have created a fantastic place to live for both pets and people.
