Once upon a time, Fort Collins was a small military outpost for the U.S. Army. In the 1860s, the outpost began to develop thanks to travelers using the Overland Trail. With time, a city developed in the area. While the region was devastated by the Great Depression and drought, the following decades encouraged significant growth. Eventually, the city became a strong force in Colorado’s economy.
