Here in Centennial, we love our pets! Whether we're walking our dogs on a beautiful summer day, or playing indoors with our cats on a cold winter night, spending time with our pets is important to us.
Centennial is located in north-central Colorado, on the south side of Denver. As you might imagine from a city in Colorado, Centennial has cold winters and mild summers. With a winter low of 18 degrees, it's not quite as cold in the winter as you might expect.
Centennial sees 245 of sun each year, and just 78 days of precipitation. While it gets 73 inches of snow, the sunny days also mean that much of that snow doesn't stick for long. Even on freezing cold winter days, you'll see the sun out and the ground dry.
With Centennial being part of the Denver Metro Area, there's no shortage of things to do and see. The Morrison Natural History Museum showcases the dinosaurs that were native to Colorado, along with others. If you like something a bit more intense, the Clue Room is one of the best escape rooms in the area. If shopping is your thing, head over to the Streets at South Glenn, Centennial's premier mall. Nature-lovers should check out Centennial Canoe Outfitters.
Centennial is a suburb of Denver and has that great, peaceful, family-friendly suburban feel. While Centennial itself is not known for its festivals or events, the greater Metro Area certainly is. The Red Rocks Summer Concert series is a must.
The three biggest areas of employment in Centennial are retail, professional and scientific services, and health care. Retail is one of the biggest economic drivers in Centennial, which isn't unusual for a suburb. The biggest single employer in Centennial is Comcast, followed by Arrow Electronics and United Healthcare. The United Launch Alliance, which manufactures and supplies rocket launch vehicles such as the Atlas V and Delta IV, is headquartered in Centennial.
Centennial is a young city; it was incorporated on February 7, 2001. Prior to that, the area was just unincorporated Arapahoe County. The city takes its name from Colorado's nickname as "The Centennial State," given because it was admitted to the Union in 1876. Possibly because it's still a fairly new city, Centennial doesn't have a motto or a nickname yet.
Centennial has a population of 108,448. The city is still growing steadily and that growth isn't expected to slow down anytime soon.
