Oceanside was originally inhabited by Native Americans, and the first Europeans to settle in the area arrived in 1769. Father Junipero Serra led a group of Spanish missionaries through California to establish a series of missions. The area was further developed throughout the 1880s, and the city was finally incorporated in 1888. In the 1900s, locals developed Oceanside as a beach town with many local attractions and activities.
