Here in Sunnyvale, we really love our pets! Situated in Santa Clara County, our city is a haven for pets and people alike.

As the seventh most populous city in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sunnyvale has a lot to offer. We are bordered by Mountain View, San Jose, Los Altos, Santa Clara, and Cupertino. All these cities make up the high-tech area known as Silicon Valley. Our mild temperatures make for a lovely place to live throughout the year.

You’ll find a lot to do in Sunnyvale, especially when you consider our 476 acres of parkland, including two public golf courses.

In our residential haven, you will also find plenty of fun festivals and activities. Sunnyvale Farmers Market is a great place to stop in on Saturday throughout the year. In the winter months, you can expect the Winter Ice Rink to open downtown. You can also count on summer’s Art, Wine & Music Festival to bring some excitement to town.

Sunnyvale is home to aerospace and defense companies in addition to other high-tech operations. Major companies with a presence in Sunnyvale include Apple, Walmart Labs, 23andMe, Google, and LinkedIn. Our city’s biggest employers include Google, Lockheed Martin Space Systems, Juniper Networks Inc, and Apple Inc.

We also have a storied history in Sunnyvale. Our city really got its start with the Ohlone Native Americans who populated the area long before anybody else. The Spanish settled in the Santa Clara Valley in the 1770s, which devastated the Ohlone people. In 1901, the city officially received its name after the amount of sunshine the region receives compared to nearby areas that feature a lot of fog.

Many notable figures have made a home in Sunnyvale at some point or another. They include actress Teri Hatcher, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, musician Brian MacLeod, novelist Amy Tan, and NFL player Sean Dawkins. With Silicon Valley as our home, you can also count on many major figures in technology and science to have developed their skills in the region.

The population of Sunnyvale as of 2017 was 153,656 people. The population is considered completely urban, and the number of people in our city has increased by over 16 percent since the year 200. This considerable growth is largely in part to the many amazing features our community has to offer. We can expect to see these numbers grow in the coming years.
