The history of the city dates back to 1874 when it was founded by Alonzo Cook. The same year, a church and school district were established in the area. In 1905, the railroad arrived and helped the town grow. It could now ship out its crops, which included oranges, chilis, strawberries, and walnuts. The city was officially incorporated in 1956.
