Fairfield

We really love our pets here in Fairfield. Whether we're outside enjoying the summer sun or hanging out indoors because of the winter rain, our pets are always by our side.

Fairfield is in Solano County, in the San Francisco Bay Area in Northern California. In typical fashion for the area, Fairfield summers are hot during the day but cool at night, and winters are cool and rainy. Fairfield is a nature-lovers paradise, with fishing available in the Putah Creek, the 8,600 acre Grizzly Island Wildlife Area providing a huge patch on unspoiled wilderness, 600 acres of grassland and forest at Rockville Hills, and the Suisun Wildlife Center. History buffs will appreciate the American Armory Museum and the Western Railway Museum. Families with children gravitate to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and the Jelly Belly Candy Company

While Fairfield is in the Bay Area, it isn't really a suburb of San Francisco. It's actually about midway between San Francisco and Sacramento. That gives Fairfield a bit of a mix between an urban and a rural vibe. It's in the middle of wine country, so "rural" doesn't necessarily mean the same thing here that it might mean elsewhere.

Every summer the city hosts the Fairfield Tomato Festival, which celebrates the rich local bounty of fresh produce and draws in over 25,000 visitors. The Independence Day Parade each July 4th includes food and fireworks for a family-friendly event.

Manufacturing, retail, and health care employ large sections of the population in Fairfield. Jelly Belly Candy Company makes its jellybeans in Fairfield, and that's one of the largest employers in town. There's also a large Anheuser-Busch brewery and a Clorox bleach plant in town. The largest employer in town, by far, is Travis Air Force Base

Solano County Animal Care and the SPCA Haven of Solano County are both based in Fairfield. They run humane animal shelters and help to provide adoption services and sometimes low-cost medical care for pets.

Fairfield has been a city since 1903, although its history goes back much further than that. Like all of California, it has at various times been a part of Spain and Mexico before California became a US State. It has a long history of habitation by Native American tribes, but its history is fairly tame. One of the most notable events in town history was the establishment of the Air Force Base in 1942. Travis Air Force Base provided a huge economic boost to the city and it still its largest employer.

Fairfield has a population of 112,790.
